AUSTRALIAN CATTLE DOG MIX
WHITE WITH GRAY (BLUE) SPOTTING
3 years old, Female, Spayed, Sweet and Friendly dog, MICROCHIPPED
Last seen at the Humane Society of Greater Miami (KENDALL, FL 33189)
Jewel was adopted two years ago. Adopter passed away. Family members took her.
On 12/23/09 we got a call from 24PetWatch that Jewel was found and at the Humane Society of Greater Miami. We called HSGM and found out that HSGM did not take her in. The people who reported that they found her brought her there but HSGM would not take her in. HSGM did scan her microchip and reported her as found to 24PetWatch. But unfortunately HSGM did NOT get contact name or phone number of people who found her. They did give the people information about local animal control facilities where they could bring her because they said they could not keep her. We still have not been able to locate where they brought Jewel.
We've called about the following dogs and they are NOT Jewel:
Brevard County, FL- IDA503813 not Jewel
Polk County, FL- IDA520517 not Jewel

Puppymill Survivors -- Tuesday October 6th, 2009
We just rescued dogs from a puppy mill that had over 200 dogs. These dogs will no longer be forced to have litter after of litter of puppies. Some are extremely emaciated from the very hard life they have had. They are weak and sick and afraid. Many have been in several different puppymills during their lifetimes. At the mill they were forced to live in filth in a falling down building filled with stench and filth beyond belief. They had no human love or kindness. Years without proper care and nutrition have taken their toll. These were truly some of the worst conditions we've seen in all our years of rescuing dogs from puppymills. Your donation will feed and provide veterinary care for these precious survivors of one of the worst puppymills.
Help them today. They are counting on you.

What Breed Should We Save -- Tuesday June 9th, 2009
What Breed Should We Save From Puppy Mills ?
South Paw Animal Rescue will be attending some auctions where the puppy mills will be buying and selling their breeding stock. We attend the auctions for one purpose.... to buy dogs out of puppymills in order to keep them from falling into the hands of another puppy mill. While it is not a solution to the problem of puppy mills, it helps some abused and neglected puppy mill dogs to finally know what freedom and love and good care is. We wish we could rescue all dogs from puppy mills, but we don't have the resources to do that, so we sadly have to pick and choose. It's not always an easy decision.
We need your help to decide what breed to rescue. Tell us what breed to rescue by going to www.SouthPawRescue.org and cast your "vote" today. You can "vote" as often and as much as you want, and be sure to tell your friends to vote also! We'll rescue dogs based on what your "votes" tell us.

Ready for Adoption -- Tuesday February 24th, 2009
The first of the dogs rescued from the Sparta, TN puppy mill are ready for adoption. Rocky, Romeo, Simba, and Chief are fully vetted and ready to go to forever homes. You can read more about these beautiful boys on our website in the Animal List and on the Puppy Mill Raid info page on our website. All four of these dogs were very healthy and in good shape when they came out of the puppy mill so we are able to keep their adoption amounts low! Chief, Rocky, or Romeo's adoption amount is $100, and the adoption amount for Simba is $150. The adoption amount helps to pay for all needed vetting for the dogs. All animals get a health exam, are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested for heartworms, on heartworm preventative and flea/tick preventative, get a dental cleaning if needed and come ready to love! Can you give one of these special furbabies rescued from a puppy mill a loving home?

TN Puppymill- 250 dogs -- Sunday February 15th, 2009
Today South Paw Animal Rescue received 12 Pomeranians from the recent puppy mill bust in Sparta, TN. The ASPCA has been in White County, TN, for the last few days managing operations after a large puppy mill raid in Sparta, TN. South Paw Rescue is one of only a few TN rescues assisting by taking dogs from the puppy mill. The rest of the dogs will be going to rescues outside of TN or to the ASPCA. There were 285 dogs rescued during the puppy mill raid on Wednesday. Small breed dogs, including Boston and Jack Russell terriers, Pomeranians, Shih Tzus, Chihuahuas, Poodles, Dachshunds, Miniature Pinschers and Schnauzers, were rescued from multiple buildings on the raided property. The dogs are suffering from a lack of basic care, feces-encrusted fur, knotted and matted fur, infected and absessed teeth, hair loss from a yet to be diagnosed illness, and other injuries and illnesses. The dogs we received today will be getting veterinary care during the next couple of weeks. Those wishing to assist by donating can send donations to South Paw Animal Rescue, PO Box 118, Hilham, TN 38568 or by PayPal to southpawrescue@yahoo.com
Assistance would be greatly appreciated.
We will be adding a special page to our website in the next few days with photos of the dogs so everyone will be able to see their progress in the coming weeks. All 12 of these Pomeranians are very young, with the oldest being only two years old. They seem to have very nice personalities so far and from what we can tell at this early point they will all make wonderful canine companions someday!

11 saved from puppy mill -- Saturday September 13th, 2008
We rescued 11 female dogs from a puppy mill on Saturday. There are three papillons, 6 pomeranians, a Japanese Chin, and a Bichon. We've given them the names Cassie, Hailey, Taylor, Honey, Chrissy, Bella, Lara, Delta, Panda, China, and Blossom.
Never, in all the dogs we have ever rescued over the years, have we ever rescued dogs in such awful horrific condition. These poor babies, I wish you could have seen what we have gone thru today trying to get them cleaned up.
First, I'll tell you that they surely had to know we were trying to help them because they have been amazingly cooperative, well except for one who has a case of the wiggles.
Poor Cassie had knots so bad on the back of her leg that she could not straighten it! Cassies tail had such crud and knotting that her tail was like a hard heavy paddle. Soaking it in warm soapy water would not soften it up. It took quite a while to find her actual tail. As soon as we freed her of that paddle she has been carrying around she started wagging her tail. Chrissy is one giant matt on her little tiny body. Her head was being pulled back by the hair knotted on the back of her neck. As soon as we were able to carefully snip thru it she was able to move her head downward. Her skin is absolutely raw from having no air getting to it. We are still struggling to get the hair off of her as it is matted right down to her skin. Her rear was so caked with knots and matts and poop that she could not relieve herself! We took care of that immediately! Taylor had golf ball sized knots behind her ears right down to the skin and various matts on the rest of her. They had been there a long time and were hard as
rocks. All of the pommies are a mess! Poor Honey, her entire body was matted badly. Bella had huge golf ball matts on the back of her ears. All were absolutely full of filth. The conditions they were living in must have been horrific. I could go on and on with the gruesome details, but I think you get the picture. I won't speculate on if any of these are girls are pregnant but we have some very strong suspicions. We are not done grooming these girls. This is more than a one day project. We've been working on it ALL day and we are not done yet. The papillons are free of all knots and are bathed. Each of these girls is grateful to have the knots gone it seems and they sat still thru it all. ALL of these girls are wonderful. and I mean absolutely wonderful. Once they are vetted and their coats are in good shape these girls will all be knockouts. And the personalities on each one of them is fabulous!!!! OMG, if I had no dogs not a one of them would leave here!!!!!!!!!!! and Hailey, she has Buddy eyes. When you get close to her, her eyes are so sweet! Taylor has been drawn to me since the car ride home where she watched me the whole way and first thing she did was give me kisses when she got out of the carrier. Babies like this group of 11 make rescue so worth it. I'm already in love with all 11 of these girls. Each of these girls needs a health exam, vaccinations, teeth cleaning, heartworm tests, and spay. The cost for all will be approximately $7,700. We suspect several of these girls are pregnant which will drive the costs of veterinary care even higher. Donations and sponsors are needed.
Putter at Rainbow Bridge -- Tuesday September 9th, 2008
Our precious papillon Putter that was just recued from the shelter in Galveston, TX has gone to the Rainbow Bridge. Everything possible was done to try to save this precious papillon's life. In spite of how sick he was, Putter was a loving and sweet papillon. We are grateful to Taddy Hamlin, Putter's foster mom, for rescuing this boy from the shelter and making his last few days here on earth happy.
17 kittens left for dead -- Sunday August 31st, 2008
17 kittens were tied in a bag and tossed onto the side of the road to die here in rural TN. They would have died quickly had it not been for a couple from IL driving by that saw the bag moving. They thought there might be a couple of puppies in the bag when they spotted it. Boy were they surprised at what they found! Three of the kittens took off when they opened the bag. The others appeared to be on the verge of dying. The couple quickly scooped up the bag and brought it to their car and got the kittens out of the bag immediately. The three kittens that ran off when the bag was first opened have not been found. These kittens are anywhere from 3-5 weeks old and are obviously from several litters. There is no animal control in this county and no animal shelter. Animals run at large and strays are all over the place. Puppies and kittens are usually unwanted in this area and dumped off in the same manner that these kittens were. They don't usually survive. These 14 were very lucky to have been found. We have the 14 kittens here as there was no where else in this county for them to go. Anyone want a kitten????? anyone want to foster a kitten or two? or three?

Pet Owner Charged With Animal Cruelty
August 18, 2008
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The owner of a Hickman County farm where over 700 animals were seized in June is facing charges.
According to press release from the state Attorney General's office, Patricia Adkission is facing 24 felony counts of aggravated cruelty, nine counts of other misdemeanors for animal cruelty and a variety of other misdemeanors in connection with the raid.
Authorities said the raid at the Lyles, Tenn., farm was the largest in Tennessee's history. The investigation was so massive that it took officials days to take animals away from the area.
Investigators said the animals were housed in various buildings throughout the 92-acre property. Many of them were without water and living in cages covered in feces.
ANIMAL WITNESS -- Thursday August 21st, 2008
In the kickoff to a brand new series ANIMAL WITNESS, Animal Planet presents THE MICHAEL VICK CASE, premiering Sunday, August 24, at 10 PM, a one-hour special that tells the full, wrenching story of the Michael Vick case. The investigative report gives an in-depth report on Michael Vick, the law enforcement officers who broke the case and the dogs who were traumatized in the horrific dog fighting scenario and their miraculous recovery.
ANIMAL WITNESS: THE MICHAEL VICK CASE also showcases the volunteers who rescued and rehabilitated the dogs recovered from Vick's home. These people showed
these down- and- out dogs so much care and love that many now live as pets.
Some even are able to work as therapy dogs, providing companionship for the sick
and elderly.
A Rare Breed of Love -- Wednesday August 20th, 2008
‘Sometimes I wonder
if I'm dreaming…’
I open my eyes and find myself in a soft, comfy bed, not a wire cage. The house is filled with sweet, peaceful silence, not the desperate cries of dogs. And then there's her. She calls herself "Ma." After she adopted me I didn't know what to expect. After years of being locked in a cage, I had lost all hope of ever being treated with kindness, but from the moment she touched me, I was smitten. Whenever she picks me up or strokes my head, she is careful, soft, gentle. She doesn't grab me. She never hurts me. She feeds me delicious food, as much as I need to feel satisfied. There is always fresh, cool water in my bowl. She actually kisses me. A lot. And sings to me. And lets me sleep pressed against her. I'm not afraid anymore. I have a name, not a number. I am loved now.
– Excerpt from A Rare Breed of Love
A Rare Breed of Love was inspired by "Baby," an abused puppy mill survivor who lived through a 9-year ordeal in order to become a "national spokesdog" to raise awareness about cruelty in the dog breeding industry.
Like all the breeding dogs, Baby was tattooed with a number and had her vocal cords cut so the owners wouldn't have to listen to her cries to be let out of her cage. Her leg was amputated after her rescue due to the abuse she suffered. On the day Baby was scheduled to be killed – because she had gotten too old to breed – she was rescued by a passing stranger who was dubbed the "Drive-by Angel." Eventually Baby found a forever home with author Jana Kohl, who was inspired to tell the world about her ordeal and hopefully reform this cruel industry. Jana quickly found support among distinguished leaders and celebrities, who are featured with Baby in this beautiful full-color book.

Lynus broke his leg -- Friday July 4th, 2008
Lynus has done a little bit too much celebrating his independence and freedom from the puppy mill today and broke his leg in a freak accident while playing this morning! He will not be available for adoption until he is fully healed. Please consider donating towards his veterinary bills or sponsoring him! This tiny 4 lb boy needs to see an orthopedic specialist. We have been hit with very high veterinary bills in the last month. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
