Nicholas is one of our Sanctuary Dogs and lives with two of the Directors of our rescue in their home. He was rescued by eskie rescue from some very bad conditions and has been severly traumatized in the past. After he was rescued he spent a several months in a foster home in eskie rescue. We were then asked if we could give him sanctuary. We are working on socializing Nicholas. At first he was very fearful of us and of strangers. With a lot of time and patience we are now able to handle him, pick him up, groom him, and he now enjoys playing with us! We are making progress with him every day. He will never be adoptable because we are sure he would bite someone out of fear so we will protect him from being placed in a situation where that will happen. Nicholas is a welcome, cherished and loved resident of our sanctuary and we truly enjoy having him here. Nicholas is in need of some sponsors. If you are interested in sponsoring him, please click on the link provided or email us at southpawrescue@yahoo.com

UPDATE 4/23/08 Nicholas is making wonderful progress!!!!!!! He has become a very happy boy in his foster home. He loves pets from his foster mom and is becoming just an absolute sweetheart! We are now working on teaching him that a leash will not hurt him. It is slow progress, but we continue to work with him daily! This boy is a total love and has really made amazing progress! He also seems to be especially fond of men! He even went right up to our father the first time he met him and gave him kisses. WOW! He's such a brave boy now! Nicholas is part of our sanctuary program and will never be available for adoption. He is available for sponsorship only and is in need of sponsors. Nicholas is one very special and very loved boy. Won't you think about sponsoring him? or maybe you can send him one of his most favorite things.... a blanket! He loves soft snuggly blankies!

UPDATE October 17, 2008
Nicholas is feeling much more secure with us. For the past year he has not wanted to leave the kitchen on his own and we would have to pick him up to get him to come into the rest of the house and he'd run right back to the kitchen. Nicholas is now coming out of the kitchen on his own and beginning to explore one of the adjoining rooms. He's so happy when he comes out of the kitchen but doesn't stay long yet. We will continue to work on building Nicholas' confidence. Nicholas has also received several lovely blankets from his special friend Cody and enjoys playing "blanket monster" with his foster mom! LOL Our "chip in" fundraiser reached it's goal with the help of Cody and Sue B of North Dakota! He's due for his annual vet exam soon and this is a huge help! Thank you both so very much!!!!!!!!!!!!

UPDATE 2/14/2009
Nicholas' confidence continues to grow!!!!! He's found his "Eskie voice" and he just started to go out the back door to the fenced area all on his own!!! Nicholas has made such wonderful progress!

UPDATE 05/01/2009

Nicholas is enjoying the great weather we've had here in TN lately. He LOVES to spend the day in the "dog room" and the other day he even came down the ramp into the kennel area to greet us when we got home from errands! Nicholas is doing so great!!!!!! What a happy boy he is! His special friend Cody sent him another blankie recently and he was SO thrilled!

UPDATE 6/9/09

Nicholas now goes down the ramp to the fenced kennel area every night to greet his foster mom when she gets home from work. He's made incredible progress. We continue to be aware that he is a fear-biter, and had a recent reminder from Nicholas when his foster mom held onto his collar longer than Nicholas was comfortable with. Nicholas did not break the skin, but it was a subtle reminder of why he is in Sanctuary. We love Nicholas and he is safe in his sanctuary here and we continue to work with him every day!

UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2009

Nicholas is doing great! He's a happy boy and feels really safe and secure in his foster home! What a wonderful boy he is! In November it will be two years since he got here. What an AMAZING transformation we have seen in him! He is comfortable being in familiar surroundings and is gaining more and more confidence as time goes along. New situations places and people still scare him but he feels safe and comfortable here with us. He's a wonderful boy and is very happy here!

UPDATE APRIL 2010

Nicholas is still doing really great! He is a sweet and loving dog with his foster family, but still does not take to most strangers. Nicholas has been enjoying life with the other little dogs in his foster home. He plays with them and really thinks he is a little tiny dog too! lol He still loves toys and blankies, but also sometimes chews them up if he doesn't have a bone to chew on, so we try to be sure he always has a bone. Nicholas is enjoying the beautiful spring weather we are now having in TN. He goes in and out the door to the kennel area freely and is completely comfortable and secure in his environment. He still does not do well anywhere except in his own environment. Slow conditioning has not changed that in the least so we are allowing him to be who he is and unless he has to go to the vet, he stays in his home environment. For a dog who was called a biter when he was first rescued, we can tell you that Nicholas is one of the most loving and affectionate and happy dogs we have ever met. He even talks to us when we talk to him. Nicholas couldn't be more cherished and adored than he is here with us. We adore and love him and do everything we are able to to make sure he is happy. And in return we get his total love and devotion. We are so blessed to have him with us.
